SPRINGTIME IN PARIS 19  

Springtime in Paris 19 continues JChadima’s exploration of the flower as both a recognizable subject and a vehicle for abstraction. As part of the larger Springtime in Paris series, the painting shares the series’ fascination with magnification, organic structure, and the unexpected visual complexity found within familiar botanical forms. Here, however, the composition feels particularly sculptural, with petals folding, curling, and opening from a concentrated center.

The painting is dominated by a restrained yet luminous palette of ivory, soft grey, muted olive green, and vibrant yellow green. Light appears to move across the surfaces of the petals, defining their contours while allowing individual forms to merge into one another. The flashes of yellow bring warmth and vitality to the cooler neutrals, suggesting the renewed energy associated with spring without relying on conventional floral colour.

Compared with other works in the Springtime in Paris series, Springtime in Paris 19 places greater emphasis on structure and movement. There is also an organic sensuality to Springtime in Paris 19. The overlapping petals suggest softness and movement, while their enlarged scale gives them an unexpected physical presence. Some forms open expansively toward the viewer while others turn inward, creating intimate spaces of shadow and light. The painting asks the viewer to reconsider something familiar by experiencing it at a scale and proximity that would normally pass unnoticed.

It retains the series’ emphasis on close observation, simplified natural forms, and quiet beauty, while pushing more decisively toward abstraction.
