About the artwork
Arizona Cross develops from JChadima’s interest in the landscape as a meeting point between natural perception and constructed form. Rather than presenting the desert as a literal geographical view, the artist transforms the landscape into a highly stylized composition in which horizon, colour, geometry, and spatial rhythm become the primary subjects.
At the centre of the composition, a monumental cross rises through the landscape in deep blues and greys. Its strong geometric presence is interrupted by a stark white line that cuts through the structure, establishing a powerful vertical axis and creating a visual tension between solidity and openness. Against this central form, the sky expands in a dramatic gradient, moving from intense orange toward luminous yellow at the horizon.
Below, the landscape is reduced to broad, undulating bands of saturated colour. Purples, greens, reds, and oranges flow across the lower portion of the composition, transforming the terrain into an almost surreal sequence of rhythmic forms. These organic movements contrast with the architectural precision of the central structure, creating a dialogue between the irregularity of nature and the stability of geometry.
As in JChadima’s broader practice, observation becomes transformation. The landscape is distilled into its essential visual components—line, colour, shape, light, and spatial relationships. The recognizable characteristics of the desert remain present, yet they are reorganized into an abstract visual language in which the landscape becomes simultaneously place, memory, and imagined space.
The dramatic contrast between the central blue-grey structure of a cross and the intensely coloured environment gives Arizona Cross its distinctive psychological presence. The white vertical passage becomes both a dividing line and a point of connection, drawing the eye from the foreground toward the illuminated horizon. The painting therefore operates not simply as a landscape, but as a meditation on scale, direction, and the encounter between human-made structure and the expansive natural world.
Arizona Cross reflects JChadima’s continuing interest in transforming familiar environments into moments of heightened perception. Through abstraction, colour, and simplified geometry, the ordinary landscape is made unfamiliar again inviting the viewer to slow down and experience its underlying rhythm and visual energy.
“The western landscape becomes a meeting place between geometry, colour, and the vastness of light.”

Interview by Karen Marin, Independent Editor Consulting Advisor for Essenencional and friend of the artist (Second part in French).
JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.
He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.
Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.
Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.
Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.
A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.
This work produces a highly stylized, graphic and colorful palette, and his works come to life...
