About the artwork

SPRINGTIME IN PARIS 10

Springtime in Paris 10* is a vibrant exploration of colour, organic form, and abstraction within JChadima’s Paris-inspired botanical paintings. Created in 2024 in **oil on linen canvas**, the work reflects the artist’s response to the distinctive light of Paris in spring—a light that heightens fresh seasonal colours and transforms familiar living forms into something more intense and visually unexpected.

Unlike the restrained, almost ethereal atmosphere found in some of the quieter works in this body of paintings, No. 10 embraces **saturated colour and pronounced contrast**. Soft passages of pale pink, lavender, and cream surround concentrated areas of magenta, violet, yellow, and green. These colours do more than describe the botanical subject; they become structural elements within the composition, defining space, directing movement, and establishing an emotional presence.

The extreme close-up removes the plant from its conventional setting. Petals and leaves expand beyond the boundaries of the canvas, becoming sweeping curves, folds, openings, and intersecting planes. The resulting composition moves between the recognizable and the abstract. What begins as an encounter with a flower gradually becomes an experience of **colour, rhythm, shape, and movement**.

There is also a distinctly sensual quality to the painting. Forms open, overlap, and fold into one another, while transitions from delicate pastels to concentrated areas of colour create a sense of movement from the quieter outer passages toward the energetic center. The contrast between softness and intensity gives No. 10 a character that distinguishes it from the more subdued paintings within the larger body of work.

The importance of colour in *Springtime in Paris 10* received **international recognition when the painting was selected for Pascale Cayla’s international editorial feature, *Colour as Territory.* The presentation brought together works exploring colour as a primary means of constructing contemporary visual worlds. In this context, No. 10 was presented alongside international artists whose work demonstrates the expressive power of intense palettes, contrasts, layered forms, and abstraction.

Its inclusion in *Colour as Territory* is particularly appropriate. Here, colour is not simply applied to form—**colour becomes a territory of its own**. Pink moves into violet, yellow illuminates green, and areas of saturated colour emerge from quieter passages to create a composition that feels simultaneously botanical and abstract.

Within the *Springtime in Paris* paintings, No. 10 represents one of the more confident expressions of the relationship between **nature, abstraction, and colour**. A familiar living form becomes the starting point for something more immersive: an invitation to move beyond identification and experience the overlooked shapes, patterns, colours, and visual energy hidden within the living forms that surround us.

About the artist Jchadima

Interview by Karen Marin, Independent Editor Consulting Advisor for Essenencional and friend of the artist (Second part in French).

JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.

He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.

Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.

Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.

Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.

A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.

This work produces a highly stylized, graphic and colorful palette, and his works come to life...
