About the artwork
PERYLENE VERT ET ROUGE
Perylene Vert et Rouge develops from JChadima’s ongoing investigation into the expressive potential of a highly restricted palette. Part of the Perylene Series, the work uses Perylene Black and Perylene Red on linen to explore the relationship between darkness, colour, light, movement, and organic form.
The composition is structured around a deep green-black field in which a sweeping red form moves across the surface. The contrast between the two pigments creates an immediate visual tension: the dark perylene appears dense and atmospheric, while the red introduces warmth, direction, and movement. Rather than functioning as a simple colour contrast, the relationship between black-green and red becomes the principal force of the composition.
The red form appears to emerge from and pass through the darker field, creating an ambiguous sense of depth. Its curved trajectory establishes a visual rhythm that guides the eye across the painting, while subtle variations in tone and density allow the darker areas to shift between solid form and atmospheric space.
As in JChadima’s broader practice, observation becomes transformation. The work moves away from literal representation and toward an essential visual language of shape, colour, space, and movement. Although grounded in the artist’s continuing interest in organic forms and the natural world, the composition deliberately resists a fixed interpretation, allowing the viewer to discover their own associations within its simplified structures.
The restrained palette is central to the painting’s character. By limiting the chromatic vocabulary to deep green-black and red, he places greater emphasis on tonal relationships, surface, and gesture. Darkness becomes an active compositional element rather than an absence of colour, while the red acts as a visual interruption—a concentrated passage of energy moving through the stillness.
Perylene Vert et Rouge reflects JChadima’s continuing interest in reducing visual experience to its essential components. Through colour, gesture, and spatial ambiguity, the painting invites the viewer to slow down and experience the subtle tension between darkness and light, stillness and movement, structure and openness.
“Within darkness, a single gesture of colour emerges and becomes movement, light, and possibility.”

Interview by Karen Marin, Independent Editor Consulting Advisor for Essenencional and friend of the artist (Second part in French).
JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.
He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.
Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.
Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.
Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.
A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.
This work produces a highly stylized, graphic and colorful palette, and his works come to life...
