About the artwork
LE RAVIN
In Le Ravin, JChadima reimagines Hells Canyon through a highly distilled vocabulary of colour, contour, and form. Moving beyond conventional landscape representation, the artist reduces the canyon’s monumental geology to a succession of layered, undulating passages. Luminous greens and yellows descend through bands of violet, earthen brown, white, deep blue, and near black, establishing a rhythmic progression that draws the eye inexorably toward the ravine’s interior. These repeated contours evoke geological strata shaped by erosion and deep time, while their compression conveys the extraordinary depth and physical force of the canyon.
The painting, however, extends beyond an interpretation of geology. Its sweeping curves, folds, and enveloping forms introduce a distinctly sensual dimension to the landscape. The composition possesses an almost corporeal presence, establishing a subtle correspondence between the contours of the earth and those of the human body. Monumental yet intimate, the landscape becomes something to be experienced physically as well as visually—nature presented not as distant wilderness, but as an immediate, vital presence.
The title, Le Ravin, further emphasizes this sense of passage and descent. Successive layers lead the viewer inward toward the concentrated violet and dark forms at the center of the composition. This visual progression transforms physical depth into something more psychological: an invitation to enter, explore, and contemplate the mysterious interiority of the landscape.
Occupying the threshold between landscape and abstraction, Le Ravin transforms the grandeur of Hells Canyon into a meditation on the relationship between geological force and organic form. Through colour, rhythm, and the repetition of sensuous contours, JChadima reveals a natural world that is at once formidable and seductive shaped by immense forces of erosion and time yet possessing an enduring intimacy and sensuality.

Interview by Karen Marin, Independent Editor Consulting Advisor for Essenencional and friend of the artist (Second part in French).
JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.
He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.
Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.
Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.
Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.
A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.
This work produces a highly stylized, graphic and colorful palette, and his works come to life...
