About the artwork

LAKE GEORGE

In Lake George, JChadima returns to the landscape of Park County, Colorado, west of Pikes Peak and near Eleven Mile, a region carrying strong associations with his early life. The painting is rooted not only in observation of the Colorado landscape, but also in memories of traveling from the American heartland to visit his grandparents and of time spent fly-fishing in the mountain waters. These experiences give the work an emotional dimension in which landscape and personal memory become inseparable.

The composition is organized around the lake’s pronounced mirror effect. Mountain forms, shoreline, and bands of intense colour are reflected across the water, creating an almost symmetrical image. Yet the reflection is not treated literally. JChadima simplifies and intensifies the landscape into flowing passages of green, orange, burgundy, brown, and gold, surrounded by atmospheric blues. The mirrored forms transform the recognizable terrain into an abstract pattern of colour and movement.

A strong dark horizontal passage divides land from reflection, giving the composition stability while heightening the luminosity of the surrounding colours. Above and below this axis, the repeated mountain forms establish a visual rhythm in which the distinction between physical landscape and reflected image becomes deliberately uncertain. Water becomes both surface and mirror, extending the landscape beyond its conventional boundaries.

Like JChadima’s other Park County paintings, Lake George reflects his continuing personal connection to the American modernist tradition, shaped through his educational background and sustained engagement with its approaches to landscape, simplification, and abstraction. Here, however, that formal language is closely tied to autobiography.

Lake George is ultimately a painting about place remembered as much as place observed. The stillness of the water, the mirrored landscape, and the clarity of the Colorado atmosphere evoke the positive emotions of childhood journeys, family, and fly-fishing.

About the artist Jchadima

JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.

He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.

Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.

Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.

Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.

A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.
