About the artwork

COW’S SKULL WITH DEER AND ELK ANTLER

In Cow’s Skull with Deer and Elk Antler, JChadima transforms familiar imagery of the American West into a highly structured exploration of form, symmetry, and visual rhythm. A bleached cow’s skull anchors the composition, while sweeping deer and elk antlers expand outward in an intricate arrangement of repeated curves.

The painting’s strong symmetry gives the natural forms an architectural, almost ceremonial presence. Deep cobalt and atmospheric blues create a spacious ground against which bone whites, ochres, umbers, and muted golds emerge with clarity. The antlers are elongated and abstracted into rhythmic bands that move across the surface, shifting the imagery beyond literal representation.

At the center, the cow’s skull provides a moment of stillness within this surrounding movement. Rather than functioning solely as a traditional symbol of mortality, it becomes an emblem of endurance—weathered yet intact, delicate yet resilient. Its pale, sculptural form creates a striking counterpoint to the saturated blue that surrounds it.

JChadima’s manipulation of scale, repetition, and symmetry allows the skull and antlers to move between object and abstraction. What begins as recognizable imagery gradually becomes a composition of line, colour, and organic geometry.

In Cow’s Skull with Deer and Elk Antler, JChadima reinterprets enduring symbols of the Western landscape through a contemporary visual language. The painting is ultimately less about the objects themselves than what they embody: resilience, permanence, and the austere beauty of forms shaped by nature and time.

About the artist Jchadima

Interview by Karen Marin, Independent Editor Consulting Advisor for Essenencional and friend of the artist (Second part in French).

JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.

He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.

Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.

Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.

Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.

A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.

This work produces a highly stylized, graphic and colorful palette, and his works come to life...
