About the artwork

BLUE STREAK

Blue Streak developed from JChadima’s photographic observations made in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, where multiple images and fleeting impressions of the landscape become the source material for an abstract exploration of colour, light, movement, and organic form. Rather than translating the photographs literally, the artist distils their visual information into a more fluid and concentrated composition.

The work brings together fragments of the observed landscape and transforms them into interconnected shapes and sweeping passages of colour. A dominant blue movement establishes a strong visual rhythm, travelling through the composition and creating a sense of direction and continuity. Around it, shifting tones and layered forms suggest vegetation, light, atmosphere, and the changing spatial relationships found within the garden.

As in JChadima’s wider practice, observation becomes transformation. The photographic image is not treated as a record of place, but as a starting point from which the artist extracts the essential elements of perception—line, colour, shape, light, and movement. Familiar aspects of the Parisian landscape gradually dissolve into an abstract visual structure, allowing the viewer to move between recognition and imagination.

The title Blue Streak refers not only to the prominence of blue within the composition, but also to the sense of movement that runs through the work. The streak becomes a visual gesture—an interruption, a pathway, and a trace of light that carries the eye across the surface.

Ultimately, Blue Streak reflects JChadima’s continuing desire to make visible the quiet beauty hidden within everyday surroundings. By slowing down the act of looking and transforming ordinary observations into abstraction, the painting offers a moment of visual stillness—a way of reconnecting with nature through colour, rhythm, light, and form.

“A fleeting impression of nature becomes a movement of colour, light, and memory.”

About the artist Jchadima

Interview by Karen Marin, Independent Editor Consulting Advisor for Essenencional and friend of the artist (Second part in French).

JChadima is an American painter and photographer living in Paris.

He developed his skills and creativity from a very young age: JChadima has been exhibiting and selling his work for a long time in the United States.

Born in the USA, JChadima studied and graduated from the University of Colorado. His unique style and creative vision were nurtured and built upon a solid foundation by some of the most influential American artists of the early to mid-century, and some of their former students. Some of his teachers were students of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe first, but also Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. They were directly involved and influential in JChadima's artistic roots.

Using her expertise in photography, JChadima developed the ability to observe details and draw inspiration from the world around her.

Whether directly from nature or still life, from current urban and environmental or historical influences, the bases of his paintings come directly from the impressions he draws from his photography.

A process of abstraction occurs by seeing beyond images and analyzing line, shape, shapes, colors and textures.

This work produces a highly stylized, graphic and colorful palette, and his works come to life...
