About the artist Ylda Decrop

"Alors qu’elle avait à peine 10 ans, Ylda Decrop passait son temps dans l’atelier de deux peintres renommés en Guadeloupe : Lucien Léogane et Alain Caprice. Des monuments ici, avec lesquels elle a fait ses premières armes. Ils lui ont expliqué le travail de la couleur, elle peignait avec eux. Elle m’explique qu’elle se sentait dans son élément, elle aimait ce qu’elle voyait, elle absorbait tout.

Il faut dire qu’Ylda avait déjà l’habitude d’exprimer sa sensibilité par le biais de l’écriture. Mais au bout d’un moment, elle s’est rendue compte que les mots ne lui suffisaient plus à partager ses émotions. Alors qu’avec la peinture, elle pouvait utiliser les éléments d’un univers illimité pour s’exprimer. Vous savez comme on dit parfois qu’“une image vaut 1000 mots”... .La maison Gaston
