About the artist Stephanie Bing

Stephanie Bing is a contemporary German painter whose practice unfolds between Korbach and Mallorca. Born in Mannheim in 1967, she studied Fine Arts, Art History, German Studies, painting, photography and Environmental Education at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her professional trajectory also encompassed a collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts and an appointment as Studienrätin in the service of the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. Since 2002 she has devoted herself entirely to her independent artistic practice. Moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, she creates richly layered mixed-media compositions that unite expressive acrylic painting, collage and gestural mark-making. She builds her paintings upon carefully assembled collaged foundations, developing complex pictorial spaces in which individual layers remain visible and enter into dialogue with one another. Interiors, botanical forms and recurring symbols evolve into evocative psychological landscapes distinguished by luminous colour, emotional intensity and ornamental complexity. Her work is exhibited regularly worldwide, with recent presentations in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Milan, Strasbourg, Cologne, Luxembourg, Rome, London, Lisbon, Barcelona, Budapest, Québec and Austria. She also directs Galerie Stephanie Bing in Korbach.
