“Pink Dawns” and “Parma Dawns” embody for me the birth of the day in all its delicacy. I worked with soft and diffuse hues to capture this fleeting moment where light still mixes with shadow. The paper collage allowed me to add depth, thicknesses that catch the light and give a tactile presence to the painting. I love this vibration of textures and nuances, between misty pink, calm blue and golden reflections, which evokes a landscape in transition. More than a simple representation, these canvases translate a sensation: that of a suspended moment, where the sky and the earth seem to merge in an ethereal harmony.”

About the artist Shams

From a young age, Maryam Shams felt a fascination with the pencil, which she considered a magical tool. This passion for drawing accompanied her throughout her childhood. After obtaining her baccalaureate, she was admitted to the School of Graphic and Decorative Art in Tehran. However, dissatisfied with the teaching provided, she successfully passed the competitive examination at the University of Fine Arts in Tehran.

A year later, driven by her desire to learn and improve, Maryam decided to make her dream come true by moving to Paris. His arrival in the French capital in September 1979 coincided with a period of political upheaval in Iran. His first goal was to learn French, followed by preparation for the competitive exam for the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Thanks to her hard work, she passed the competition and graduated with honors in drawing five years later.

Attracted by lithography and screen printing, Maryam deepened her knowledge of these techniques by working for two years in Abraham Hadad's workshops. Also wishing to acquire an in-depth theoretical understanding of art, she enrolled at the Sorbonne to study Visual Arts.

Today, Maryam Shams lives and works in France, where she creates works of art that reflect her varied artistic influences, including Abstract Expressionism, Action painting, European monochrome and Abstraction. Primarily using ink, pigment and collage on canvas, she explores the endless possibilities of artistic expression through her creations.
