Looking at the world differently: Oleksandra Horscroft's brush
There are artists whose careers defy all predictions. Oleksandra Horscroft is the perfect example: born in 1967 in the Soviet Union, she dreamed of a life of poetry and freedom in a world that imposed rigor and norms. Her childhood, marked by a boundless imagination, was a silent protest against the drabness of everyday life.
A ballerina at heart, a poet at heart, and an instinctive creator, she nevertheless chose a most surprising academic path: a gold medalist from a scientific high school, and a degree in reinforced concrete engineering from Riga Technical University. But the collapse of the Soviet regime offered her what her soul had always craved: the opportunity to create. She then founded her own advertising agency, where she staged the messages of others, while secretly nourishing her own thirst for expression.
An art born of instinct and healing
For years, photography fueled her artistic vision. But a medical recommendation—painting to improve fine motor skills—triggered a revelation. With no academic training, no role model, Oleksandra picked up her brushes and began painting flowers. And she never stopped.
Based in France since 2020, she paints daily, driven by an inner urgency: to translate her emotions through color, to give body to the fragile beauty of the world.
The vibrant expression of a sensitive world
Oleksandra Horscroft paints in acrylics, in a style that oscillates between expressionism and impressionism , with a unique touch that she humorously calls parsonism , in reference to the Parkinson's disease that affects her gestures. Her paintings, often inspired by nature, are an ode to life, an invitation to slow down and contemplate the discreet brilliance of what surrounds us.
"We live in such a fast-paced world that we forget to look for the beauty around us," she says. Her vibrant, soulful works are like windows onto this beauty we no longer see.
A universal message: live in harmony and be happy
What runs through all of her work is a message of great simplicity, yet rare depth: to live in harmony with oneself, with others, with nature . Through each canvas, Oleksandra reminds us of the essential. She does not seek technical perfection, but authenticity of emotion. And this is precisely what is touching: her art is sincere, raw, luminous.
