Antonia Ionescu

传

Antonia Ionescu is a Romanian painter based in Bucharest who has been drawn to painting and colour since the age of five. She holds a Master's Degree in Painting from the National University of Arts in Bucharest and has been exhibiting since 2007. Her path has not always been linear; she has lived and worked abroad, including several years in the Netherlands, while continuing to return to painting and develop her practice. Initially focused on portraiture, she has increasingly sought to expand her visual language and explore new subjects within painting. Her recent work includes the Ordinary Stuff series, in which still life becomes a space for investigating colour, composition, light and the physical quality of paint. She is particularly interested in saturated colour, carefully considered compositions and precise, deliberate brushwork. Over the years she has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Romania and internationally, including in Amsterdam, Budapest and North Macedonia. Her practice continues to evolve through a constant curiosity about painting and an interest in finding new ways to look at the familiar.
